Alvoco das Várzeas Medieval Bridge

This monument (16th century) is located close to the EN230, over the Alvoco river, a tributary of the Alva River, near a river beach.

It has an unusual design, provided by the need to overcome uneven banks, which confers lightness and elegance to the structure, built with great care. A stone bridge with two asymmetrical arches, with a ramped deck on one side.

The ramp, located on the right bank and over the first and lowest arch, is quite steep, creating an angle over the second and highest arch that joins the more elevated bank, giving the impression of a trestle despite the fact that there is no incline on the bank.
