Refúgio do Raposo is both an alliance and a tribute - an alliance between Heaven and Earth, the Cosmos and Humankind. Located in the village of Casalinho da Ribeira, in the municipality of Proença-a-Nova, it offers a form of liberation embodied in four traditional schist houses. Three of these are located in the village itself. The Casa da Ribeira is about 1 km away, by the Alvito stream, surrounded by 400 olive trees.
The three village houses pay homage to the starry night sky that can be admired in this region. They are named after the three stars that form the well-known Summer Triangle: Altair (T1), Vega (T2), and Deneb (T3).
A swimming pool, terraced viewpoints, a restored old wine cellar, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, a library, bicycles, and board games are just some of the amenities available to visitors at Refúgio do Raposo—located in a region renowned for its stunning river beaches and delicious local cuisine.
Guests can also take advantage of their stay to go skydiving at the Moitas Airfield, try rock climbing, explore certified hiking trails, visit the Living Science Forest Centre, the various viewpoints of the Naturtejo Geopark, and the geological monuments of Portas do Almourão, Serra das Corgas, and Serra das Talhadas. The area is rich in geological and biological diversity, as well as archaeological and military treasures.
“My wife, our children, and I are grateful to everyone who visits us. We are happy to share our project and will do everything to ensure you feel comfortable and at home with us. After a life of work as teachers, my wife and I chose to do something that connects us to the land, to our roots, and in some way allows us to contribute—even a little—to prevent the continued depopulation of the interior. And you, our future guests and friends, are an essential part of this project we believe in.” - Francisco Gonçalves, your host
