The Xisto Sonoro project, under the artistic direction of Luís Antero, who has developed a project to record the soundscapes of all the Aldeias do Xisto (and whose work can be heard on the Aldeias do Xisto website) is on this year's programme of the XJazz- Encontros do Jazz nas Aldeias do Xisto 2019.
The show is scheduled for 25 October, at 10pm, at the O Passadiço Bar, in the Aldeia do Xisto of Janeiro de Cima.
Since 2008, the sound landscape artist Luís Antero has been working on the collection and documentation of the ethereal sound heritage of the Beira Serra and Serra da Estrela areas, based on on-site sound recordings, which can be heard online. He was a guest artist and one of those responsible for the recordings of the project Sounds of Arco Ribeirinho Sul, in the city of Barreiro, and artistic director of the “Arquivo Sonoro do Centro Histórico de Coimbra”, of the archive Sons da Montanha: São Martinho de Anta Sound Archive (from Miguel Torga), among others.
Luís Antero began "recording" the Aldeias do Xisto in 2009, and the soundscapes that gave rise to the work Xisto Sonoro were put together in 2013.
This concert is the beginning of the artistic exploration of the archive contained in Xisto Sonoro - Paisagens Sonoras da Rede das Aldeias do Xisto (Sound Landscapes of the Schist Villages Network), which we hope to extend to future seasons, inviting Portuguese and foreign artists to work on the recordings of the soundscapes already made, but also to add new recordings, making use of installations, performances and concerts.
Promoted by ADXTUR - Schist Villages Tourism Development Agency and the JAAC- Jazz ao Centro Club, XJazz once again brings the inescapable names of Portuguese and world Jazz, fostering unusual encounters between musicians from different regions and generations.
