The Municipality of Góis is organizing the 2nd edition of the Intercultural Festival "Lavadouros com Alma" (Washhouses with Soul), an initiative that values local heritage and promotes intercultural exchange.
The goal is clear: to preserve the old public washhouses and transform them into spaces of memory, art, and community gathering, where past and present engage in a creative and inclusive dialogue.
The washhouses of Ponte de Sótão and Capelo will host the event on July 5 and 13, respectively.
These washhouses, once central to village life, are being brought back to life through artistic interventions that involve both the local population and new residents, encouraging cultural exchange and building “bridges” between Portuguese traditions and diverse knowledge, languages, and experiences.
Each washhouse becomes a living space, with murals, poetry, photography, sound installations, and participatory workshops, where stories are shared, bonds are formed, and diversity is celebrated. Art becomes the thread that connects the memories of the women who once washed clothes there to the voices of an increasingly diverse community.
