“Journey to Prehistory – Rock Art in the Municipality” is the theme of the latest hike in the “A Dois Passos do Paraíso” (Two Steps from Paradise) initiative, taking place on June 22 in the village of Figueiredo. The meeting point is at the Associação Cultural e Social da Freguesia do Figueiredo at 8:30 a.m., from where participants will be transported to the starting point of the route.
Guided by archaeologist Filomena Gaspar, the hike follows part of the PR5 – Rota dos Pastores e da Lajeira (Shepherds and Lajeira Route), beginning at the Lajeira Rock Art Station and ending at the Figueiredo Parish Church. In total, the walk covers 7.87 km, with a moderate level of difficulty and an estimated duration of three hours.
Along the route, Filomena Gaspar will provide historical and cultural context for the prehistoric rock engravings found in the area, offering participants a direct and informed experience of this valuable prehistoric heritage.
Registration, which is mandatory and limited to 150 people, costs €10 (€5 for children aged 6 to 10, free for children up to 5 years old). It includes a snack, lunch, and personal accident insurance.
