The wool cycle is the theme to be explored during the artistic residency promoted by the female collective FIASCO TÊXTIL in the Aldeia do Xisto ofTalasnal.
Taking place from June 19 to 22 at Casa da Eira, the initiative includes open workshops and collective creation, celebrating the sheep wool cycle and exploring its integral and sustainable use. Through traditional craft practices, it aims to encourage intergenerational knowledge exchange, the creation of original pieces, and active interaction with the local community.
Beyond exploring the textile process itself, the project also seeks to investigate ways to integrate artisanal production with the resources, knowledge, and products already present in the region, through partnerships with residents, local producers, and regional initiatives. In other words, the goal is to make use of and transform what already exists — such as dye plants, natural fibers, tools, stories, and experiences — into raw materials and inspiration for the textile pieces created, generating shared value and reinforcing local identity.
Throughout the artistic residency, local residents, visitors, and anyone interested are invited to actively participate in the following activities:
Wool washing and carding
Hand spinning
Natural dyeing with local plants and felting
Loom weaving and tapestry
Botanical printing on fabrics
The program also includes the creation of a local collection, talks on practices, and a final exhibition showcasing the pieces produced, along with product sales, sharing of traditional foods, and a presentation of the residency experience.
