These live handicraft demonstrations, hot white cornbread and music form the ingredients for a day full of entertainment in the highest of the Aldeias do Xisto. On 31 July, Aigra Velha is hosting an event promoting the dissemination of local products and handicrafts, with artisans present working and showing visitors how to make white cornbread, “broa”, in a traditional wood-burning oven, as well as the traditional “filhó” (fried pastry) with heather honey. On such a festive day, there will be no shortage of musical entertainment.
Programme
- 10am: Opening
- Sale of local handicrafts by the artisans themselves
- Cornbread Workshop + Filhó (fried pastry) Workshop near the Village’s Still and Communal Oven - 1pm: Traditional lunch in the village (caldo verde soup and Beirã torresmos (pork crackling))
- Taking the white cornbread out of the oven and tasting it - 3pm: Local entertainment and dancing
- 6pm: Farewell
