1st International Cherry Symposium

As part of the 4th Edition of the Fundão Agricultural Innovation Fair, the 1st International Cherry Symposium will take place on July 4, featuring both national and international speakers who are experts in cherry cultivation.

The initiative aims to share knowledge related to the latest production practices that enhance the competitiveness of cherry cultivation, particularly in the context of climate change. Topics in focus include climate change scenarios and their impact on cherry crops, cultural practices such as green pruning and irrigation management under water scarcity conditions. Post-harvest developments, especially the latest technological advancements in this area, and plant health — with a special focus on the Drosophila suzukii fruit fly and the monitoring of vectors of Xylella fastidiosa — will also be addressed.

This is a unique opportunity to share the latest developments in cherry cultivation, featuring international speakers such as Gregory Lang from Michigan State University, USA; Juan Pablo Zoffoli from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile; and Elena Nieto Serrano from the Extremadura region of Spain.

The Symposium is organized by the Municipality of Fundão, the Agrarian School of Castelo Branco (ESACB), and COTHN — the National Horticultural and Fruit Growing Technological Operational Center — Competence Center.
